Stronger or weak? Have you ever had a long time friendship with someone special? your answer is probably what it is common for everybody due to the fact there is always someone who comes to your life and makes it sense. So, you tend to call: My friend or best friend ever!
The book: The absolutely true dairy of part-time indian, there is a strong relationship between Junior and Rowdy who grew up together in the reservation. When they were kids as Junior always suffered bullying due to his physical appearance. Rowdy always defended him with his strengh. So, they were always hanging out with each other. In fact, Junior was the only one who gets Rowdy. The relationship between Junior and Rowdy is quite weird about how they treat each other, but they deeply have good feelings.

Rowdy quote: But Rowdy talked me out of it. "It's not like anybody's going to notice if you go away," he said. "So you might as well gut it out." Isn't that tough love?
Rowdy is the toughest kid on the rez. He is long and lean and strong like a snake. His heart is as strong and mean as a snake, too. But he is my best human friend and he cares about me, so he would always tell me the truth.
Junior and Rowdy shared most of the things together specially their love to play basketball as Rowdy was one of the best players in the reservation. Keep in mind he is stronger and he scared to most of the other players.

Junior is called "an apple"
The people at home," I said. "A lot of them call me an apple.
Junior was having a conversation with Gordy when he spilled the beans to him. Junior revealed he was called "an apple" because he was just an indian outside by his skin and physical appearance. Nevertheless, he became white inside because he was behaving quite different from the reservation people. Most of people cannot see when one person wants to fly away and pursue his/her own path. That´s why Junior was heading towards another direction due to the fact he did not want to follow the same habits from the reservation people. At the end, Junior took the best decision in his life and it was in fact by Mr. P who encouraged him to look up a better life.
I think that Junior and Rowdy friendship is as real as it can get, it was sometimes overshadow by discrimination (people were homofobic)in the rez sine they could not share as much affections as they wanted to, but were mostly together. It was understanble that Rowdy felt betrayed when Arnold decided to leave the Rez, but with time he understood it was the right choice.
